Grandparent Families

As people are living longer now and as our society changes, grandparent families are becoming more common.  A grandparent family is one in which one’s grandchild comes to live with and be raised by the grandparent or in which the grandparent adopts a grandchild.

Legal issues

Depending on the circumstances, different legal issues will arise.  For example, does the grandparent have the right to make medical and other decisions for the grandchild?  If the grandchild is adopted and the grandparent’s Trust or Will leaves all the assets to be divided equally among the children, does the grandchild receive an equal protion of the estate as his/her parent?

Simplicity

It is almost impossible to simplify the many issues which will arise with a grandparent family.  You need an experienced attorney who is able to ask the right questions and guide you in the right direction for your unique situation.
