Healthcare
Power of Attorney -
This is a document valid in most States which allows you,
while you are competent, to choose someone you love and trust
to make medical decisions for you. The Healthcare Power of
Attorney is usually only in effect when you are not capable
of making your own decisions, such as during surgery or while
unconscious from an automobile accident. This document allows
someone close to you to make the same medical decisions you
would make if you were able.
Living
Will -
A Living Will, or a Declaration of Natural Death in some States,
is a document which allows you to make your wishes known ahead
of time concerning the continuation or removal of medical
treatment in certain conditions. These conditions are usually
after you have been examined by more than one doctor, and
all the doctors determine to a medical certainty that you
are either permanently unconscious or you have a terminal
condition and death will result in a reasonably short period
of time. The purpose of a Living Will is to allow you to make
the decision about your own life, rather than requiring loved
ones to make the decision at a time they will be emotional
and upset. More |
